About Brenden

Hi World!

Brenden Spivey is an abstract artist known for his captivating and dynamic works that explore the intersection of color, texture, and shape. Born and raised in Newark, Ohio Spivey developed a deep appreciation for art later in life, inspired by the diverse and thriving art scene in Columbus. Spivey's work is characterized by its bold, expressive use of color and its intricate, layered textures and shapes. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources, including nature, music, his travels and mid-century modern design, Spivey creates works that are at once vibrant and nuanced, evocative and elusive. Over the course of his short career, Spivey has gained recognition for his distinctive approach to abstract art, which blends elements of the traditional with the contemporary. His works have been exhibited in many prestigious venues, galleries, and corporate collections domestically and internationally.   In addition to his artistic pursuits, Spivey is also an active member of his community, donating his art and resources to support a variety of social and cultural causes. Inspiration

Palm Springs, California, is a desert resort city known for its warm climate, stunning mountain views, and iconic mid-century modern architecture. The city has a vibrant and colorful aesthetic that is a testament to the 1950s and 1960s design era. Mid-century modern design is characterized by clean lines, organic shapes, and a minimalist approach to decoration. It incorporates natural materials such as wood, stone, and metal to create a timeless and functional design. My love of Palm Springs and mid-century modern design inspires my artwork in several ways. The vibrant colors and sleek lines of mid-century modern architecture influences my choice of color palettes and composition. The desert landscape of Palm Springs also inspires the use of organic shapes and textures in my artwork.

Techniques

My artwork is usually a combination of acrylic paint and oil paint.  I love the fast drying properties of acrylic to build up the multiple layers, but I enjoy finishing my work with rich and creamy oil paints.

When I'm not doing mixed media work I am occasionally doing acrylic pours or encaustic paintings.
